As a college student, I am in a stage of life where everyone around me – and myself included – is in school pursuing a particular degree. A special piece of paper certifying that the university recognizes that they have learned a significant amount in a particular field of study. I recently attended Union’s graduation ceremony, and it was an exciting thing to see friends of mine walk across the stage and accept their degrees, officially culminating their years of study. But while this is a significant achievement, it’s also the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
What, then, is the destination? Sure, one important goal in college is to finish. But when it’s finished, another journey is already beginning. Life is a big, exciting series of journeys that fit together into a larger journey. As a Christian, I know that even after my earthly journey is complete, it will continue forever in heaven. So it’s important that each moment be lived to God’s glory, and that each smaller journey along the way be seen not just as a means to a particular destination but as living life itself.
Because I live for my Savior, everything I do is for His glory. I also know that the Lord directs my paths, and therefore, the journeys that He takes me through are preparation for what is yet to come. I give thanks to Him in everything, knowing that He truly works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
As I move forward in this awesome journey called College within the bigger journey called Life and the eternal journey of my walk with the Lord, I cherrish every moment. There will be points of acheivement along the way, but I am here for the journey.
